Coalition for Service-Learning Statement on the President’s FY22 Budget Request

The Coalition for Service-Learning is pleased that the President’s budget provides a strong statement of support for national service, including the AmeriCorps program and AmeriCorps Seniors, and for continued investment in innovative education programs to support afterschool, summer learning, and civic education opportunities for all students. We are disappointed, however, that his budget request does not include $250 M in funding for the Service-Learning Fund [programs authorized in Subtitle B of the National Service laws] as recommended by the Congressionally-appointed bipartisan Commission on Military, National and Public Service. The Coalition’s 160+ member organizations believe that this investment in the development of students’ civic knowledge and skills is more critical now than ever before. Service-learning is a proven strategy for students to take effective action in their communities on issues that matter to them while developing their skills for a lifetime. The Coalition looks forward to continuing to work with Members of Congress to restore funding for student service-learning in the FY22 appropriation to the Corporation for National and Community Service/AmeriCorps agency.
